“What Made Maddy Run”

Kate Fagan, former ESPN sports journalist and author of the book “What Made Maddy Run,” spoke Feb. 4 to student-athletes and community members in the University of Tennessee at Martin Skyhawk Fieldhouse. She discussed the story of Madison Holleran, an all-star athlete at the University of Pennsylvania, and the mental health issues that can stem from the transition to collegiate life and athletics. Fagan stayed after her public presentation for a closed question-and-answer session with UT Martin student-athletes.

 

Country Radio Broadcasters Award Scholarship to UTM

Country Radio Broadcasters selected UT Martin’s broadcasting program as one of two recipients for this year’s $25,000 scholarship award, presented during the organization’s Country Radio Seminar held Feb. 13 at the Omni Hotel in Nashville.

UT Martin communications major Olivia Johnston interviews Martin Mayor Randy Brundige for WUTM 90.3 “The Hawk” during the station’s celebration of World College Radio Day. World College Radio Day’s goal is to raise the profile of college radio stations across the country and encourage increased student participation in the medium.

 

Advisory Board Meets

The UT Martin Advisory Board held its inaugural meeting Jan. 9 on the main campus. Art Sparks, of Union City, was selected to serve as board chairman by unanimous vote. Sparks is a partner with Alexander Thompson Arnold and a 1976 UT Martin graduate. He will serve as chair until June 30, 2020. Devin Majors, a junior political science major from Nashville, will serve as student representative until June 30, 2019.
