Enrollment Up

UT Martin recorded its first fall enrollment increase since 2010 by reaching 6,800 students for the 2017 fall semester, almost 100 more than the 6,705 that enrolled in fall 2016. The 2017 total includes 1,048 freshmen, the largest freshman class since the fall of 2014. Final numbers include students enrolled at the main campus, online students and students attending the university’s five centers in Jackson, Parsons, Ripley, Selmer and Somerville.

Somerville Center Opens

Years of planning and persistence paid dividends in August with the official opening of the new UT Martin Somerville Center in Fayette County. The former Methodist Fayette Hospital has been transformed into a state-of-the-art higher education facility featuring science and computer laboratory space, classrooms, conference rooms and offices. The center offers select degree programs and courses and also concentrates on job-skill training to meet the needs of prospective regional employers.

Bob Smith, UT Martin chancellor emeritus, was honored with the dedication of the Robert M. Smith Legislative Chamber in the Boling University Center. Members of the 2016 UT Martin Student Government Association recommended the renaming in honor of Smith, the first former chancellor to be recognized this way by the student body.
