IPS Agencies Welcome Women in Public Service

The Municipal Technical Advisory Service, the County Technical Assistance Service and the Naifeh Center welcomed more than 100 women from across the state for its annual Women in Public Service Symposium. Attendees hold various positions in state and local government in Tennessee. Speakers included former Lady Vols Athletic Director Joan Cronan, UT Knoxville alumna and comedian Leanne Morgan and Kay Coles James, a nationally known public administrator who served in the Reagan and both Bush administrations.

Naifeh Center, Baker Center Host New Legislators

The Institute for Public Service’s Naifeh Center for Effective Leadership and the Howard H. Baker Jr. Center for Public Policy at UT Knoxville partnered to host the biennial newly elected Tennessee legislators workshop in January. The workshop sessions focused on being an effective legislator, the state budget and budgeting process, and a roundtable discussion with former Gov. Don Sundquist, former Tennessee House Speaker Jimmy Naifeh and former state Sens. Jo Ann Graves and Bill Clabough.

Forensic Academic Alumni Attend Symposium

More than 50 law enforcement officers from around the country attended the National Forensic Academy Symposium in Nashville. The symposium is hosted every other year by the Law Enforcement Innovation Center and attended by many alumni of the academy. Sessions included forensic application of genetic genealogy and aftermath of an active shooter: investigation and crime scene considerations.
