The bright orange UT icon adorning the main entrance of Methodist University Hospital, now renamed Methodist UT Hospital, symbolizes the partnership between the UT Health Science Center and Methodist Le Bonheur Healthcare system. UTHSC faculty members make up a large portion of the physicians and clinicians who provide care and training at Methodist UT Hospital. More than 300 physicians are currently training in Methodist facilities.

On her final flight, she was the payload commander in charge of all science activities. Her memoir, Go For Orbit, was published in May.

Humanitarian Help

UTHSC students Sabina Ranjit and Bishwas Shrestha helped raise support for Nepal.

Nepal helped in the aftermath of the Haiti earthquake and the flooding in the Philippines. The world needs to help the country now. That’s what Dr. Smith Giri, a UTHSC medical resident in Memphis, said in the aftermath of the earthquake in his native country in April. “My family is safe, but there are a lot of people out there who need help,” he said. More than $3,300 was raised in one day at UTHSC for the Red Cross.

Members of the Girls Empowered and Mentored for Success (GEMS) and their caregivers, adorned in their best clothes and fancy hats, attended a special tea party hosted by the Shelby County Relative Caregiver Program at UTHSC. GEMS is a mentoring program for middle- and high-school girls enrolled in the Relative Caregiver Program, which supports children and teens who are being raised by relatives because their parents are not able to do it.
