As I mentioned in a previous post, the Alumnus is put together through the UT System Office of Communications and Marketing. Occasionally on Twitter I refer to Alumnus headquarters and that just really means my office, but I don’t really like to say “my office.” Again, it’s a little bit of a privacy issue, I guess. But for full disclosure, Alumnus headquarters is my office, which is located on level P2 in Andy Holt Tower on the UT Knoxville campus. Andy Holt Tower has 10 floors, including P1 and P2, which are both subterranean, and then floors one through eight. I believe the P refers to parking level because P1 and P2 are connected to parking garages. My office is sort of like being in the basement except there are windows, which look out into the parking garage. This sounds gloomy, but the garage has an open area with trees. My window looks out into this open area with gingko trees that turn an amazing yellow in the fall. The parking garage level is for commuter students, and it is fun to watch students scurrying to class every day. The top level of the garage is right above my office, so there are cars parked directly above my desk. Heavy trucks make the office vibrate when they drive across the expansion joints on the lot. That is pretty interesting during a meeting. But all in all, it is a good location.
If you are familiar with the Knoxville campus, then you know Andy Holt Tower is located behind the curved Communications and Student Services Building with the green area known as Circle Park and circular driveway. Behind the tower is Thompson-Boling Arena, whose full name is Thompson-Boling Assembly Center and Arena, but everybody just leaves off the Assembly Center part.
