Welcome and Introductions

One of the best parts of my job is seeing the magazine come together and posting finished spreads on the “results board.” I like to look at the entire magazine at once.

Welcome to the Tennessee Alumnus blog. Let’s start with introductions and then what this blog is about and what you can expect to find here.

My name is Elizabeth Davis, and I am editor of the Alumnus magazine. I work in the Office of Communications and Marketing in the University of Tennessee System headquartered in Knoxville. The magazine is for all alumni of all UT campuses and institutes. In addition to editing the magazine, I work in media relations, public relations and other communication efforts coming from the UT System office. I am a graduate of UT Knoxville and spent 11 years as a sports and news reporter for The Associated Press before coming to UT to work in public relations.

This blog is about the magazine, including what’s in it and how it’s put together. I’ll also cover news about alumni. I get a lot of email from alums out there that just can’t fit in the magazine. After all, there are more than 345,000 alumni. The blog also will have comment on UT news and trends in higher education and media. In fall 2013, I returned to the classroom to take courses in public administration, so I’ll plan to write occasionally about the experience of a “non-traditional” student who is a working parent. From time to time, the blog will feature posts from guest writers. I’m a fairly private person, so I’m not sure how comfortable I will be sharing personal information or whether any of that will be relevant. We’ll see.
