Chamberlain Pavilion dedicated

UTC Chamberlain Pavilion

Former chancellors, athletic directors, athletes, band members, cheerleaders and members of the Chamberlain family gathered for a celebration of the legacy of Chamberlain Field and Stadium and the dedication of the new Chamberlain Pavilion. Reflecting the architecture of the former stadium and incorporating building elements from the original structure, Chamberlain Pavilion stands as a beautiful gateway to the new library.

Pilot online class offered

UT Chattanooga was the first UT campus to pilot a class on the new Coursera online platform. Working with UTC’s Video Production Center and the Coursera team, Tracye Pool’s freshman English class was offered in fall 2013. Pool broke the content of the course into a series of 10-minute video blocks.  UT and the Tennessee Board of Regents entered into the partnership with Coursera in an effort to test the platform’s effectiveness toward Tennessee’s goal of providing higher education to more citizens.

Student Success

Robert Fisher, UTC Student Government Association president and Brock Scholar, was appointed to the Tennessee Higher Education Commission as the student representative of the UT System. Last summer, Fisher was selected to participate in the Institute for Responsible Citizenship in Washington, D.C., where he met President Barack Obama and many other influential leaders.

Technology boost

A new collaboration between UTC and IBM will give students an array of marketable skills in data analytics, one of the fastest-growing sectors in the national and regional economy. Faculty members may access resources in IBM’s Academic Initiative, providing access to technology, curriculum and learning materials at no cost. Smart technologies, cloud computing, mobile platforms, social media and other new generation technologies are fueling the revolution of big data.
