Bonnaroo Photos by Rob Heller

The tens of thousands of people and hundreds of performers at Bonnaroo provide endless subjects for photographer Rob Heller, professor of journalism and electronic media at UT Knoxville.

Heller, whose photographs are featured in these articles, has been to Bonnaroo six times with plans to go again this year. In 2008, he performed with his group Tennessee Schmaltz, in which he plays the clarinet and washtub bass. But mostly he goes to take pictures.

“It’s an amazing experience and a great place to photograph,” Heller says. “The variety of music is incredible. There’s always something to listen to, even for a 58-year-old like myself. I also like experiencing new performers with my son Benjamin (Knoxville ’11), who has been my musical guide through the years.”

Heller has taught at UT Knoxville since 1986. His work includes two books: Living On: Portraits of Tennessee Survivors and Liberators and More Than the Game: The Tennessee Football Experience.
