Let There Be Light

New light soon will be shed on the UT Martin campus — literally. A $2.8 million lighting project, set for completion this September, will update and improve campus lighting as never before. The project was made possible through federal stimulus funds.

Decorative pole bases with vintage acorn-shaped globes are replacing outdated lighting hardware that’s been in place for decades. The university’s quadrangle and parking lots are receiving the replacement lights, while Skyhawk Soccer Field and the Fitness Trail will be lighted for the first time.

A side benefit of the lighting project is enhanced campus safety. One of the state’s safest public universities will take on an added degree of security as the new lights illuminate the campus.
