Friends and family gathered at the Jackson Terminal to celebrate Lofton Stuart and his 42-year career of dedication and service to UT

Farewell to Stuart

Tying a legacy…with UTC Chief of Staff Terry Denniston (Knoxville ’80), left, and UTC Assistant Vice Chancellor for Alumni A airs Jayne Holder (Chattanooga ’74).

Serving under the tutelage of 10 University of Tennessee presidents for more than four decades, Lofton Stuart’s entire career has been spent with the university. That was recognized by President Joe DiPietro in a resolution honoring Stuart (Knoxville ’71) at the October meeting of the UT Board of Trustees.

After graduating with a bachelor’s degree in agriculture and designated a Torchbearer, Stuart began his 43 years of service to UT. He has held a variety of leadership positions within development and alumni affairs, including serving as executive director of the UT Alumni Association. Stuart also served as executive assistant to two UT presidents.

Stuart also was celebrated for his leadership and service at a November reception in his honor in Knoxville. Hundreds gathered and commemorated his lifetime of service with an endowment in support of the UT Alumni Association Legacy Scholarship.

He plans to retire Jan. 31, and as he told his longtime colleagues at the Board meeting, “I’ll be watching you from the sidelines and cheering every day.”
