For decades, Pat Summitt has been the face of Lady Vols basketball, women’s basketball and, in many circles, the University of Tennessee. Now her legacy will forever be enshrined on the UT Knoxville campus with the addition of the Pat Summitt Plaza, which was dedicated in November 2013. The statue and plaza, located on the corner of Lake Loudoun Boulevard and Phillip Fulmer Way, pay tribute to the legend who brought not only unparalleled success to Lady Vol basketball but also unmatched amounts of character and integrity.
175 Years of Engineering
Engineering has been taught on the UT Knoxville campus for 175 years. The College of Engineering marked the occasion with a gala, special video, dedication of the new John D. Tickle Engineering Building and luncheon honoring the 40th anniversary of the college’s diversity programs.
Big Dinosaur on Campus
What weighs 2,400 pounds, is 24 feet long and looks prehistoric? The bronze skeleton of an Edmontosaurus annectens, a hadrosaur or duck-billed dinosaur, in front of the McClung Museum of Natural History and Culture. This type of dinosaur lived in Tennessee about 65 million years ago. The museum has a display of hadrosaur bones that were discovered in the state. The statue was installed as part of the museum’s 50th anniversary in 2013.
