Working Women

Working Women

The UT Martin WestStar Leadership Program hosted the annual Working Women’s Conference in February. Keynote speaker Kellye Cash-Sheppard, Miss Tennessee ’86 and Miss America ’87, talked about her pageant experiences and their impact on her life. “The crown represented all those moments that led to that life-changing moment when I realized what was really important,” she says. Current Miss Tennessee Chandler Lawson (Chattanooga ’12) also spoke.

Raising Standards

Beginning in fall 2014, new admission standards will be in place. The UT Board of Trustees approved new standards at its winter meeting. An ACT score of 21 and 2.7 GPA or an ACT of 19 and a 3.0 GPA will replace the current requirements of ACT score of 21 and a 2.5 GPA or an ACT of 18 and a 2.85 GPA.

Raw is Good

Some people think raw food is good food. So good, in fact, that they eat only uncooked and unprocessed foods. UT Martin offers off-campus courses that take some of the guesswork out of following a raw food diet. The nondegree classes even teach how to prepare raw desserts such as creamy pecan bars and chocolate banana ice cream. Raw food chefs Tiffany Finney and Amy Koerner are teaching Raw Food 101, Raw Delicious Desserts and Gourmet Raw Food this spring at UT Martin’s Jackson, Ripley and Selmer centers. Campus Fun

GreekFest brings out the inner performer in otherwise mild-mannered UT Martin students. The annual festivities include lip sync, line dancing and step show competitions among the campus fraternities and sororities. This year’s festivities were in February.
